Title: The Call to Medical Missions Speakers: Bruce Thompson, M.D. & Barbara Thompson, RN Our story and the events that led up to God’s call in our lives is part of His Story making history. Today, illness is the great felt need out among the nations. It is also a great opportunity for the great commandment opening up the way for the great commission. Jesus’ ministry often resulted in healing and salvation, which led to releasing new life. He has commissioned us as healthcare professionals to allow Him to continue His healing ministry in and through us here on earth. |
| Track 2: June 30, 2008 Time: 3:30-5:00 PM |
Title: Biblical Perspective on Health and Healing Speakers: Bruce Thompson, M.D. & Barbara Thompson, RN The Old English word ‘Hal’ is the root word for health, wholeness, and holiness. A biblical model of the whole person is presented and seen to be an essential understanding for ‘Hal’. 1 Thessalonians 5:23-24 speaks about the whole person; the spirit, soul and body should be sanctified or set apart as a dwelling place for the Holy Spirit of God. Our bodies are His temple and we are not our own; we have been purchased with a price. Practically, what does this mean and how does it relate to our practice of medicine and missions? |
| Track 3: July 1, 2008 Time: 1:30-3:00 PM Combined track session (college & above) |
Title: How the Supremacy of Christ Creates Radical Christian Sacrifice Speaker: Dr. John Piper, Bethlehem Baptist Church, Minneapolis, MN How does the supremacy of Christ create radical Christian sacrifice? For the answer, we’ll look at a sequence of passages in the New Testament book of Hebrews. But for us to see the answer, we will need to ask: What is the “great reward,” and what is the “better resurrection,” and what is the joy set before us, and what is the “city that is to come”? The answer to all of these questions is the same: Their most ultimate meaning is that they refer to the infinite supremacy of Christ experienced with all-satisfying joy. |
| Track 4: July 1, 2008 Time: 3:30-5:00 PM |
Title: Healing from Inside Out or Outside In Speakers: Bruce Thompson, M.D. & Barbara Thompson, RN Freudian and Neo-Freudian schools. Skinner and Behavior Modification. Other major streams of contemporary therapy. A biblically eclectic approach is studied in which healing may begin from the inside or outside. Jesus sometimes forgave sin and then healed physically and other times healed physically and then said, ‘sin no more.’ Healing was both by natural and supernatural means. How does the biblical model influence our thinking and practice as healthcare professionals in today’s world? |
| Track 5: July 2, 2008 Time: 1:30-3:00 PM |
Title: Taking His healing to the Nations Speakers: Bruce Thompson, M.D. & Barbara Thompson, RN “And the leaves of the tree were for the healing of the Nations” (Revelations 22:2). Jesus’ great commission was for His disciples to go out to Jerusalem, Judea, Samaria and the uttermost parts of the earth. As healthcare people we are challenged to discover His strategy for healing and health at home as well as abroad. We will study some models which God is working through to bring His healing and health to people groups all over the world. |
| Track 6: July 2, 2008 Time: 3:30-5:00 PM |
Title: As the Father Has Sent Me, So I Send You! Speakers: Bruce Thompson, M.D. & Barbara Thompson, RN Jesus’ relationship with the Father was the key to His life and ministry. The unity in this relationship released the Holy Spirit to empower Jesus to heal the sick, cast out demons, and even raise the dead. How can we grow in intimacy with the Father so that the Holy Spirit can do even greater things than Jesus did? During this time we’ll present a simple plan in the hope that more of His healing to the whole person will be multiplied out among the nations as a result of this session. |
